Represent NHS Blood & Transplant campaign: blog tasks

 1) What does BAME stand for?  Black, Asian and minority ethnic

2) Why is there a need for blood in the BAME community? By becoming a blood donor you could potentially save someone's life and help people undergoing long-term treatments. We especially need more blood donors from BAME communities to help: give blood transfusions to people who need blood that is closely matched to their own.

3) What does this advert want people to do once they've seen it ('call to action')?

4) Why is the advert called 'Represent'? as it is trying to 'represent' those who are apart of the bame community

5) Why have the producers chosen famous BAME celebrities to feature in the advert? Give an example of three well-known people who appear in the advert and why they are famous. Written and performed by fantastic UK Grime artist and 2016 MOBO Award winning Lady Leshurr, the video showcases leading UK celebrities including record breaking Olympian Nicola Adams MBE, TV presenter and wheelchair basketball player Ade Adepitan, Chuka Umunna MP and MOBO’s own Founder and CEO Kanya King MBE.

6) Why is there a slow-paced long shot of empty chairs at the end of the advert? to emphasise the need for more donors

7) How does the advert match the key conventions of a typical rap music video? Conventions of Rap/hip-hop music videos
There are a lot of typical conventions in rap/hip-hop music videos that I will be researching to help me with my music video.

Props
A lot of props are used throughout rap music videos and the main one of all of these is Jewelery. Jewelery like gold chains, gold rings and big expensive watches. Also money and cars are frequently used as props as well. These are all to show that the artist is wealthy.

Camerawork
Clothing
Usually in rap music videos the artist wears casual clothing that can be quite baggy and loose. For example in Eminem's "Like Toy Soldiers" he is wearing a very large tracksuit.

Throughout most hip-hop/rap music videos there are usually a lot of shots that focus on the main artist. There are usually a lot of close ups of the artist and/or the artist is usually in the center of the screen. Also a lot of low angle shots are used to try and show the artists importance over everyone else. For example in Kendrick Lamar's 'Humble' he is the only one in this shot that is looking up and he is in the center.

8) How does the advert subvert stereotypes? Give three examples (e.g. ethnicity, masculinity, femininity, age, class, disability/ability etc.)

9) How does the advert reinforce certain stereotypes of the BAME community? Could there be an oppositional reading where some audiences would find this advert offensive or reinforcing negative stereotypes?
